Elysian Fields and Heroes Helping Horses, Horses Healing Heroes (6H), a Montoursville nonprofit providing equine-assisted therapy to veterans, first responders, children, and families since 2021, is facing an uncertain future after the sudden death of co-founder Rob Schnars and the farm’s unexpected sale leading to bankruptcy proceedings. The program pairs rescue horses, many unadoptable elsewhere, with individuals struggling with trauma, anxiety, or loss, helping them heal through the horses’ unique ability to mirror emotions and foster self-regulation and confidence.
Co-founder Lee Ann Sickels is fighting to keep the program alive by appealing the bankruptcy case and launching a fundraiser to cover equipment, maintenance, and potentially relocate the farm. The therapy has been life-changing for many participants, offering a safe, non-judgmental space for healing and connection. With no similar programs nearby and the horses at risk of losing their homes, the community is rallying support through a GoFundMe campaign to preserve this vital resource.
