Montana Fair Highlights 4-H Youth Success in Livestock and Life Skills

Montana’s fair season is thriving with vibrant participation from youth involved in Future Farmers of America (FFA) and 4-H programs, who showcase livestock such as steers and lambs. Participants like Piper Davis and Heidi Dyk from Churchill, Montana, highlight the deep connections they’ve formed with their animals and the confidence and skills gained through 4-H, which extends beyond agriculture to include STEM, robotics, and life skills development. This year’s fair features strong competition and a major livestock sale with nearly 400 lots available.

The 4-H program, a century-old institution in Montana, continues to foster leadership and practical skills among youth aged 5 to 19. As Davis and Dyk conclude their 4-H journeys, they reflect on the program’s impact on their personal growth and future paths—Davis plans to study agriculture at sea, while Dyk pursues a career working with horses. The fair season not only celebrates agricultural heritage but also serves as a launching pad for young people’s aspirations and community involvement.
