Misty Meadows: An Inclusive Equine Center Transforming Lives Through Community and Therapy

Misty Meadows Equine Learning Center in West Tisbury defies the typical elitist image of upscale horse barns by offering an inclusive, affordable, and therapeutic equine experience accessible to all ages and abilities. Originally a high-end stable donated by the Kenney family in 2016, it merged with the therapeutic stable Rising Tide and transformed into a nonprofit accredited by PATH International. Their mission focuses on affordability and accessibility, subsidizing 80% of program costs through grants and private donations. The center serves over 5,800 individuals annually with licensed instructors, a dedicated staff, and 165 volunteers, many of whom began as young students and now give back to the community.

Misty Meadows fosters a warm, welcoming environment that emphasizes healing, community, and personal growth through unique programs such as mounted archery and therapeutic riding for people with disabilities, including those with autism and mobility challenges. The center partners with 45 local organizations and welcomes anyone interested, regardless of experience, to participate in horse care, events, or therapy. Its impact extends beyond riding, offering meaningful connections that build confidence, empathy, and leadership skills, while also providing comfort and joy to elderly visitors and those with cognitive impairments.
