Mindframe Named Top Mid-Atlantic Bred After Stellar 2025 Season

Mindframe, a Maryland-bred racehorse, has been named the Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred/The Racing Biz Top Midlantic-bred of 2025 after an outstanding season that included two consecutive Grade 1 wins—the Churchill Downs Stakes and the Stephen Foster—and earnings exceeding $1.4 million. Trained by Todd Pletcher and owned by Repole stable and St. Elias Stables, Mindframe was the only older U.S.-based horse to win two Grade 1 dirt races in 2025. He retires with five wins from nine starts and will stand at Claiborne Farm in Kentucky, taking over a prestigious stall previously occupied by legendary horses.

The year was notable for Mid-Atlantic-breds, with four Grade 1 winners and an Eclipse Award champion sprinter, Book’em Danno, who finished runner-up in the voting for the second consecutive year. Maryland-breds dominated the top 10 list, reflecting a banner year for the region’s breeding industry. Mindframe’s breeder, the late R. Larry Johnson, left a lasting legacy, and his family plans to continue supporting Mindframe’s stud career by breeding mares to him, symbolizing a full-circle moment for the farm and the Mid-Atlantic breeding community.
