4 Paws Sake, a Milton-based animal rescue that has helped over 200 dogs and cats find forever homes in six years, is facing closure due to a shortage of volunteers and the high annual operating cost of around $12,000. Shelter manager Angie Cooper highlighted the challenges of maintaining consistent volunteer shifts and the emotional difficulty volunteers face when animals are adopted. Despite efforts to creatively promote adoptions, including media partnerships like with WNEP meteorologist Ally Gallo, the nonprofit will likely close in April unless community support increases.
Local officials and the Milton Police Department expressed sadness over the potential loss of this vital community resource, emphasizing its importance in managing stray animals and supporting residents. Council members Joe Moralez and Jamie Walker are seeking ways to assist the shelter, hoping the community will rally to keep it open. Donations of food, toys, or money are welcomed, and those interested in adopting animals like Asher, a one-year-old lab currently in need of a home, can contact the shelter through their website.
