Mike Stewart’s Balanced Approach to Positive Dog Training and Adventure Dog Certification

Mike Stewart, owner of Wildrose Kennels in Mississippi, brings over 30 years of dog training experience and is known for developing the Adventure Dog Certification program in 2007. His training philosophy, called the Wildrose Way, emphasizes a balanced approach combining positive reinforcement with necessary negative corrections to shape desirable behaviors without harsh methods. Stewart’s approach evolved as a response to traditional, often harsh bird dog training techniques, favoring humane, reward-based methods influenced by diverse disciplines including service dog and even dolphin training. He also extends his expertise to training service, therapy, and diabetic alert dogs, supporting these efforts through fundraising and partnerships to help those who cannot afford such animals.

Stewart’s background includes 25 years in law enforcement and graduation from the FBI National Academy, experiences that have shaped his management and training skills, particularly in teaching owners how to work effectively with their dogs. Outside of training, Stewart enjoys hunting, adventure activities with his dogs, and participating in events like the Outside In Aspen festival, where he offers clinics and demonstrations that highlight practical dog skills in outdoor settings. The event, held June 8-10, features a variety of adventure sports and community activities, providing a platform for Stewart to showcase his training methods and engage with dog owners of all skill levels.
