Michael Grieve, a seasoned Queensland thoroughbred industry professional and former deputy chair of the AgriFutures Thoroughbred Horses Advisory Panel, has been appointed as the new chair. Joining him on the panel is Jonathan D’Arcy, a long-serving Inglis auctioneer with 39 years of experience, who recently stepped back from full-time work to contribute his extensive knowledge to the panel. Together, they bring over 70 years of industry expertise to guide the panel’s efforts in supporting research, development, and education initiatives aligned with AgriFutures Australia’s five-year strategy.
Both Grieve and D’Arcy emphasize the importance of research and innovation in advancing horse health, welfare, safety, and workforce development within the thoroughbred sector. Grieve highlighted the value of targeted studies, such as those on yearling laryngeal function and breeding technologies, while D’Arcy expressed his commitment to fostering evidence-based practices and strong governance to support the industry’s future. The advisory panel plays a crucial role in recommending funding priorities to ensure the ongoing evolution and improvement of the thoroughbred industry.
