Memorial Service for Jericho Cup Founder Bill Gibbins to Be Held at Flemington Racecourse

The memorial service for Bill Gibbins, founder of the Jericho Cup, will be held at Flemington Racecourse tomorrow at 11am. Gibbins, who passed away at 78 after a long illness, was celebrated for reviving the Jericho Cup, personally funding over $1 million for its first four races, and his extensive charitable work supporting organizations such as Riding for the Disabled Association of Australia and Wheelchairs for Kids. Honored as a Member of the Order of Australia in 2021 and inducted into the Warrnambool Racing Club Hall of Fame in 2024, Gibbins was widely respected for his passion for horse racing, philanthropy, and dedication to honoring Australian servicemen and women.

Industry leaders praised Gibbins’ legacy, highlighting his significant contributions to Australian racing and community causes. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Wellington clinic or Wheelchairs For Kids in his memory. Attendees can RSVP online for the service, which will be held on level two of the Atrium at Flemington.
