The No. 3 Auburn equestrian team is gearing up for the 2025-26 season with nine new members, including freshman Sandy Smith from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Sandy specializes in Jumping Seat and brings an impressive competitive background, having won titles such as the WCHR 3’3″ Junior Hunter Classic and placing ninth overall at the Junior Hunter Finals. She was drawn to Auburn by its strong traditions, welcoming community, and vibrant football culture. Sandy has been riding for nine years and values the independence and teamwork the sport has taught her.

Balancing academics and athletics is a challenge for Sandy, who admits to sometimes procrastinating on schoolwork. Outside of riding, she enjoys baking, playing with her dogs, and shopping. She advises younger riders to stay focused and work hard to achieve success in collegiate competition. Sandy describes the Auburn equestrian team as “successful” and highlights the exceptional care the horses receive, emphasizing the dedication of barn manager Katie Renfroe in providing a loving environment for the animals.
