Junebug, a registered Tennessee Walking Horse, was rescued by the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Department due to neglect from her previous owner. After being taken in by Easy R Equine Rescue, she was diagnosed with equine protozoal myeloencephalitis (EPM) and underwent a year of treatment. Although she still exhibits some neurological damage, she has not experienced any acute flare-ups in recent years.
Currently, Junebug resides in a foster home where she enjoys grazing with her companion, Gabe, another rescue horse. While she can be a bit difficult to catch in the pasture and is anxious in new situations, she is generally well-behaved once haltered. Easy R describes her as “quirky” in a positive way, and due to her condition, she is not suitable for riding but would make a wonderful companion horse.
Easy R hopes to find a loving home for Junebug and Gabe together, emphasizing their strong bond. They are part of the ASPCA Right Horse initiative, which aims to increase horse adoptions across the U.S. For more information about adopting Junebug or other horses, interested individuals can visit the ASPCA’s Right Horse website.
