Mary J. Anderson, 72, Beloved Human Resources Leader and Equine Rescue Advocate, Passes Away

Mary J. Anderson, aged 72, passed away peacefully at home under Hospice care on March 27, 2026. Born in Thomasville, Georgia, she grew up in Florida and graduated from Boca Ciega High School in 1971. Mary married Robert, whom she met in junior high, and together they raised their son Damon while supporting Robert’s 25-year Naval career, which took them to various locations before settling in Virginia Beach. Mary built a successful career in banking, ultimately serving as Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Monarch Bank until her retirement in 2015.

Beyond her professional achievements, Mary was deeply passionate about equine rescue and devoted much of her free time to caring for horses, cats, and dogs. After retiring, she and Robert returned to Thomasville, Georgia, where she enjoyed the peaceful surroundings of her hometown. Mary is survived by her husband, son, three grandchildren, and several siblings. A private family ceremony will be held, and in her memory, donations to local equine or humane societies are encouraged.
