HHH Ranch, a Manhattan-based nonprofit rescue farm founded by Christine Doran, experienced an unprecedented year marked by a surge in animal rescues and expanded therapeutic programs. Typically rescuing two to five horses annually, the ranch took in 25 horses in critical condition along with over 20 small livestock animals, many suffering from severe neglect. Community support enabled the purchase of rare equipment like an equine sling, enhancing the ranch’s capacity to care for severely injured horses. The ranch also collaborated on capturing escaped wild yearlings and launched several programs, including stable Moments for foster and post-adoption youth, Horse-Powered Reading and Math, and a Veterans and First Responders Program, all designed to provide healing and life skills through interaction with horses.
Despite significant fundraising successes, including $55,000 raised to cover funding shortfalls and equipment purchases, HHH Ranch continues to face ongoing needs for feed, shelter, and infrastructure improvements. The farm relies heavily on community donations and grants to sustain its rescue efforts and therapeutic offerings. Doran emphasized the importance of these programs in providing second chances and resilience for both animals and vulnerable youth, highlighting the farm’s commitment to expanding support services, including plans for a prison and parole program for foster youth aging out of care. The ranch remains dedicated to its mission, driven by community generosity and a focus on healing and empowerment.
