Maine State Police responded early Wednesday to multiple reports of a runaway horse wandering along Interstate 95 near mile markers 143-145. The horse was initially seen running with traffic in the northbound breakdown lane before crossing into the southbound lanes. Troopers located the frightened but unharmed horse in Burnham around 3 a.m., secured it by tying it to their cruiser, and awaited Animal Control and the owner.
The horse had apparently wandered off without the owner’s knowledge, who lives nearby in Pittsfield. After being safely loaded onto a trailer, the horse was transported home. Police also expressed gratitude to members of the public who helped troopers in controlling the animal during the incident.
