The maiden Kwara Horse Show, held on November 16 at Queen Elizabeth School’s Sports arena in Ilorin, showcased a vibrant blend of equestrian sports and cultural heritage, drawing a full house. The event featured diverse competitions including horse parades, female horse races, horse drop ball, and horse ball matches, with notable winners such as Asmau Ibrahim in the female race and Sulaiman Aminu in the horse drop ball. The Ilorin Emirate Horse Royal Heritage Team triumphed in the thrilling horse ball contest, and raffle prizes included a horse won by Habeebat Abdulganiyu.
The event was praised by Kwara State officials for preserving Ilorin’s rich cultural legacy, linking back to the historic Ilorin Emirate Durbar of 1930. It attracted prominent dignitaries including representatives of the Emir of Ilorin and key local leaders, highlighting the show’s significance in promoting youth engagement and sustaining traditional equestrian practices in the region.
