Magnitude Triumphs Over Forever Young to Win 2026 Dubai World Cup at Meydan

Magnitude, a colt by Not This Time, secured a gutsy victory over the world’s top dirt horse, Forever Young, in the 30th Dubai World Cup (G1) at Meydan Racecourse. Ridden by jockey Jose Ortiz and trained by Steve Asmussen, Magnitude led the race from start to finish, holding off Forever Young by a length. This win was particularly meaningful for Asmussen, who previously won the World Cup with Curlin in 2008, and for owner Ron Winchell, who found redemption after his star Gun Runner finished second in 2017. The victory also guarantees Magnitude a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, continuing a path similar to Gun Runner’s successful career.

Magnitude was bred in Kentucky and purchased for $450,000 at the 2023 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. His sire, Not This Time, was a graded stakes winner and now stands at Taylor Made Stallions for $250,000. Despite Forever Young’s strong record, including wins in the Breeders’ Cup Classic and Saudi Cup, the Meydan dirt track seemed less favorable for him, contributing to Magnitude’s triumph. The win sets high expectations for Magnitude to emulate Gun Runner’s post-World Cup success, including multiple Grade 1 victories.
