Maes Mynan Park Opens for National Open Garden Scheme Charity Event on July 12

Maes Mynan Park, a privately-owned estate in the scenic village of Afonwen near Caerwys, Flintshire, will open to the public on July 12 as part of the National Open Garden Scheme (NGS). Set within the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley AONB, the multi-million pound site features panoramic views, woodland, a sequoia grove, freshwater lakes, and diverse wildlife. The event aims to raise funds for UK health charities such as Hospice UK, Macmillan Cancer Support, and Parkinson’s UK, while also promoting local businesses and artisans through 32 stalls showcasing handcrafted goods and regional culinary delights.

Owners Peter and Louise Barlow emphasize the park’s unique blend of luxury, nature, and rich history, transformed from an old sand and gravel quarry into a tranquil retreat nicknamed “Little Switzerland.” Visitors can enjoy curated walking trails, engage with local producers, and experience the estate’s natural beauty. Entry is £4 for adults, with free admission for children, and proceeds support the NGS charities. The event runs from 10:30am to 4:30pm, offering a peaceful and inspiring day for garden lovers, families, and wildlife enthusiasts.
