Trainer Kenny McPeek is already looking forward to 2025, despite the possibility of extending 2024 by a few months. Both of the stars that have made 2024 a career year for McPeek are scheduled to run next year, with Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan set to start in the Malibu Stakes at Santa Anita Park and filly Thorpedo Anna targeting either the Dubai World Cup or the Apple Blossom Handicap.
Mystik Dan, a son of Goldencents, is preparing for the Malibu Stakes at Santa Anita after finishing eighth in the Belmont Stakes. Thorpedo Anna, the champion 3-year-old filly, is currently resting at McPeek’s farm in Lexington and will begin training for her 4-year-old campaign in January.
Together, Mystik Dan and Thorpedo Anna have been instrumental in McPeek’s career-best year in 2024, with 84 wins and earnings of $15,893,896. McPeek’s 2024 resume includes six grade 1 wins, his first Breeders’ Cup victory, and becoming the fifth active trainer to win all three legs of the Triple Crown.
