Litmus Test, the betting favorite, secured a decisive victory in the Grade 2, $200,000 Los Alamitos Futurity, ridden by Juan Hernandez and trained by Bob Baffert. Tracking the early leader Provenance, Litmus Test took command entering the stretch and won convincingly, earning 10 Kentucky Derby qualifying points. Baffert swept the trifecta with his three starters, marking his ninth win in this 1 1/16-mile race for 2-year-olds.
Provenance set the early pace but finished third, while Blacksmith rallied from last to claim second. Litmus Test, a Kentucky-bred colt by Nyquist and purchased for $875,000, improved his record to two wins in five starts despite a recent fourth-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. The win solidifies his status as a leading contender on the Road to the Kentucky Derby.
