Lillian Wasson Shares How 4-H Shaped Her Leadership and Livestock Skills at Oceana County Fair

Lillian Wasson has been an active 4-H member for nine years and is entering her fourth year showing livestock at the Oceana County Fair, where she plans to exhibit horses, goats, and rabbits, and sell a Boer meat goat. She values 4-H for its community-building aspect, the friendships she has formed, and the life skills it has taught her, such as responsibility, patience, leadership, and communication. Beyond local fairs, Wasson has participated in various state and national 4-H events, which have further developed her confidence and leadership abilities.

Wasson emphasizes that 4-H has provided her with more than just animal care knowledge; it has helped her grow personally and prepare for her future. She plans to pursue a degree in veterinary medicine, aiming to apply the skills and lessons learned through 4-H to make a positive impact in animal care and her community. For her, the most valuable outcomes of 4-H involvement are the personal growth, hard work, and support for others that the program fosters.
