Lauren Sprieser and C. Cadeau’s Journey to Reserve Champion at the U.S. Dressage Festival of Champions

Lauren Sprieser recently returned to Virginia after competing with her Danish Warmblood gelding, C. Cadeau, at the U.S. dressage Festival of Champions in Illinois. This marked their first trip to the prestigious event, where they earned reserve champion honors in the USEF Intermediaire I National Championship. Throughout the week, Sprieser detailed the challenges of traveling with Cadeau, including his finicky eating and drinking habits on the road, and the mental and physical preparation required for high-level competition. With support from coach Olivia Lagoy-Weltz and her syndicate owners, Sprieser navigated the pressures of competition, ultimately delivering strong performances that culminated in a 72% freestyle score and a second-place finish.

Beyond the competition, Sprieser shared insights into the day-to-day realities of managing a top-level dressage horse, balancing training, care, and social connections at the show. Despite some travel and logistical hurdles, including a long drive home and a car recall, she expressed deep satisfaction with Cadeau’s progress and their partnership. Sprieser, a USDF medalist and experienced trainer, continues to develop horses for high-level competition and syndication, sharing her journey and expertise through blogging, social media, and her book on horse syndication.
