The Nuckolls County Fair and rodeo in Nelson, Nebraska, is gearing up to celebrate its 150th anniversary from July 28 to August 2, with significant involvement from local 4-H members. Among them, 16-year-old Lauren Kohmetscher, the 2024-2025 Nuckolls County Youth Ambassador and president of the Lucky Buckaroos 4-H Club, plays a key leadership role. Lauren actively participates in 4-H Council meetings, assists with fair activities, and promotes 4-H recruitment and awareness. Coming from a fourth-generation 4-H family, she and her siblings maintain the family tradition by showing multiple livestock species and engaging in various projects.
Lauren’s dedication extends beyond animal showing to include baking, sewing, and art, alongside school activities like FFA and Student Council. She credits her parents for instilling a strong work ethic and time management skills. One of her special projects this year is designing a commemorative t-shirt for the 150th fair, themed “the tradition lives on,” reflecting the enduring spirit of 4-H and the community’s agricultural heritage. Lauren’s leadership and enthusiasm exemplify the values and continuity celebrated at this milestone event.
