Laurel Park Tops North America in Turf Racing with Record 2025 Season

Davyjonz’s win on Thanksgiving Day at Laurel Park capped a highly successful 2025 turf racing season in Maryland, with the track ranking third nationally for the number of turf races, behind Santa Anita and Gulfstream Park. Since April, Laurel Park hosted the most turf races in North America, running seven more days of grass racing than in 2024, with the latest turf race date since 2016. This success was attributed to the dedicated maintenance team, including key staff and C6 Turf Management, who kept the turf course safe, fair, and in excellent condition throughout the year.

The strong turf racing program supported large fields and multiple races daily, contributing to increased betting handle on major stakes days like the Jim McKay Maryland Million. Looking ahead, the maintenance crew will focus on off-season turf care to prepare for 2026, including new preparations for hosting Preakness weekend at Laurel Park. The improvements reflect years of enhanced turf management and collaboration among track officials, jockeys, and trainers, resulting in one of the heaviest and most competitive turf race schedules in the country.
