Laura Graves shared a heartfelt tribute on Facebook mourning the loss of her beloved horse, Verdades, affectionately known as Diddy, who passed away at 23. Bred in the Netherlands and purchased by Laura as a challenging young horse, Diddy overcame early difficulties, including serious injuries to Laura, to become an exceptional dressage partner. Together, they made their international debut in 2012 and achieved remarkable success, including a team bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics, team and individual silver at the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games, and reaching the #1 spot in the FEI World Rankings—the first American pair to do so.
Diddy was retired in 2020 after it became clear he could no longer perform at his top level, and he then enjoyed a peaceful retirement until his passing. Laura expressed deep gratitude for their 23-year partnership, highlighting the profound bond they shared. The equestrian community extends condolences to all who were touched by this extraordinary horse’s legacy.
