Lake Placid Horse Show Revitalized with $6 Million Investment and International Upgrades

The Lake Placid Horse Show has experienced a remarkable revival after years of declining attendance, driven by a $6 million investment announced by New York Governor Kathy Hochul. This funding supports extensive upgrades including state-of-the-art all-weather footing, improved drainage, expanded practice areas, and enhanced stabling facilities, elevating the venue to meet International Equestrian Federation platinum standards. These improvements have attracted top riders worldwide, increased prize money, and created a year-round facility for the community, ensuring the event’s sustainability and economic impact, which brings over $18 million to the region annually.

Key changes include relocating the Grand Prix ring for better spectator views, improved horse safety with all-weather footing replacing grass, and enhanced traffic flow around the rings. The upgrades have generated significant excitement among riders, trainers, and organizers, leading to a waiting list for entries and expectations of record attendance next year. Town officials and show managers emphasize that this investment marks the beginning of a broader vision to strengthen the horse show’s core while expanding community use of the upgraded facilities.
