King Charles III to Arrive by Carriage for Trooping the Colour 2024

King Charles III will arrive at this year’s Trooping the Colour by carriage instead of horseback, marking a shift from his previous participation in 2023 when he rode for the first time since 1986. This decision comes as he is in the early stages of cancer treatment, diagnosed earlier this year. Reports suggest that this may indicate he will not ride in future processions.

The Prince of Wales and the Duke of Edinburgh will participate in the royal procession on horseback, while Princess Anne, who has not been seen riding since suffering head injuries last summer, will return to horseback as part of her role as Gold Stick.

Trooping the Colour is scheduled for June 14 at Horseguards Parade, where the Royal Family is expected to attend and make a balcony appearance following the ceremony, which features the Coldstream Guards trooping their regimental flag.
