Khadijah Mellah Makes Amateur Jockey Debut at Goodwood Racecourse

Khadijah Mellah, the first British Muslim woman to win a horse race in Britain, made her amateur jockey debut at Goodwood Racecourse, finishing sixth in the Gay Kindersley Memorial Amateur Riders Handicap race. Mellah, who made history in 2019 by winning the Markel Magnolia Cup just months after first riding a horse, expressed hope that her participation would inspire people from diverse backgrounds to pursue horse racing and exceed expectations.

Since her historic win, Mellah has been actively involved in promoting inclusivity in the sport, helping to establish the Riding A Dream Academy, which supports young people from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds to engage in horse riding. She shared that the overwhelming support she has received has been crucial to her journey and looks forward to many more races ahead.
