Khadijah Mellah, the first British Muslim woman to win a horse race in Britain, made her amateur jockey debut at Goodwood Racecourse, finishing sixth in the Gay Kindersley Memorial Amateur Riders Handicap race. Mellah, who made history at 18 by winning the Markel Magnolia Cup just months after first riding a horse, expressed hope that her participation would inspire people from diverse backgrounds to pursue horse racing and exceed expectations.
Since her historic win, Mellah has co-founded the Riding A Dream Academy, aimed at helping young people from diverse and disadvantaged communities get involved in horse riding. She shared that she has been overwhelmed by the support she has received and credited the strong support network around her for her achievements, looking forward to many more races ahead.
