The Kerrobert rodeo is introducing a new event for 2025 called the Cougar Queen Competition, aimed at women over 40, expanding the traditional rodeo Queen contest typically for younger cowgirls. This inaugural competition will take place during the rodeo from July 4 to 6 at the Kerrobert Fairgrounds, adding a fresh and inclusive element to the festivities. The three contestants—Amy Wright, Annie Cholin, and Shirleen Morland—each bring a lifelong passion for horses and rodeo culture, with extensive backgrounds in horse riding, training, and community involvement.
Amy Wright has been deeply involved with horses and local rodeo events for decades, including leadership roles in the Kerrobert Jamboree Committee. Annie Cholin, a business owner and professional photographer, has a strong family connection to rodeo and continues to compete in barrel racing. Shirleen Morland grew up on a farm near Kerrobert and has dedicated her life to raising and showing quarter-horses, as well as teaching and judging horse events. The Cougar Queen will be crowned on July 6, promising an exciting addition to the Kerrobert rodeo tradition.
