Kentucky Horse Racing & Gaming is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Kentucky Thoroughbred Breeders’ Incentive Fund (KTBIF) by awarding $20 million to breeders of Kentucky-bred Thoroughbreds. Since its inception in 2005, the program has distributed over $274 million to breeders whose horses win eligible races worldwide. The KTBIF supports the state’s equine industry by incentivizing breeders to keep mares in Kentucky, contributing to the state’s dominance in horse racing, including sweeping the 2025 Triple Crown races and winning numerous prestigious international events.
The program has been widely praised by industry leaders and breeders for strengthening Kentucky’s breeding market, supporting family farms, and boosting the local economy. It has reversed previous declines in mare market share and helped maintain Kentucky’s position as the global leader in Thoroughbred breeding. The KTBIF’s success is attributed to the dedication of breeders and the program’s structure, which reinvests funds into the industry, ensuring continued growth and excellence in Kentucky horse racing.
