Kentucky Thoroughbred Awards 2025: Sovereignty Named Horse of the Year, Crowned Honored as Broodmare of the Year

The Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders (KTOB) and Kentucky Thoroughbred Association (KTA) announced the 2025 Kentucky-bred champions at an awards ceremony in Lexington. Crowned, the dam of multiple Grade 1 winner Sovereignty, was named Broodmare of the Year, while Sovereignty earned Horse of the Year and champion 3-year-old male honors after winning the Kentucky Derby, Belmont Stakes, and Travers Stakes. Godolphin, Sovereignty’s owner and breeder, was recognized as both Kentucky Thoroughbred Development Fund (KTDF) Owner and Breeder of the Year for the fifth consecutive year and received the P.A.B. Widener Award for the sixth consecutive year.

Other notable winners included Ted Noffey (2-year-old male), Super Corredora (2-year-old filly), and Nitrogen (3-year-old male), among various category champions across dirt, turf, sprinting, steeplechase, and international racing divisions. Merit awards honored individuals such as Judy Hicks for breeding contributions and B. Wayne Hughes for humanitarian efforts. KTDF awards highlighted Not This Time as Sire of the Year and Troubleshooting as Earner of the Year. All winners were selected by KTOB/KTA members or based on earnings at Kentucky racetracks in 2025.
