Two Kentucky horsewomen, Lucy Burnett and Bobbi Westbrook, are preparing to compete individually in the Gaucho Derby, a grueling 500-kilometer endurance race across Patagonia, Argentina. The 10-day event challenges riders with rugged terrain and variable weather while requiring them to switch mounts regularly among hardy regional horses. Both women, experienced in off-track Thoroughbreds and foxhunting, view the race as a personal challenge rather than a competition, using the opportunity to raise funds for Thoroughbred aftercare organizations Second Stride and Pirates’ Promise.

Burnett and Westbrook have launched a GoFundMe campaign aiming to raise $4,000 to support these nonprofits, reflecting their commitment to giving back to the horses that have shaped their riding careers.
