A Kentucky man, Jorge Luis Hernandez, went viral after being arrested for DUI while riding a horse through Bowling Green. Police spotted Hernandez slumped over on horseback with signs of intoxication, including slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol. He was reportedly returning from a liquor store, with a liquor bag tied to the horse’s saddle. After failing sobriety tests, he was charged with operating a non-motor vehicle under the influence, a lesser-known but valid charge under Kentucky law that applies to any form of transportation, including horses.
The incident sparked widespread online reactions, mixing disbelief, humor, and debate about the seriousness of DUI laws extending beyond cars to bicycles, scooters, and horses. While some joked about the horse being more responsible, others emphasized the dangers impaired riders pose to public safety. Hernandez was booked into jail, and the case is ongoing, highlighting that DUI regulations cover all modes of travel, not just motor vehicles.
