Kentucky Downs Revises Race Times After New Timing System Errors

Kentucky Downs discovered timing errors in four graded stakes races held on Saturday, leading to revisions of the recorded times to slower results. Initially, three of these races were reported as track records, but after review, the track decided to reset all records starting this year and will only recognize the fastest times within each meet rather than official track records. Notable adjustments included Wimbledon Hawkeye’s Nashville Derby time changing from 2:03.74 to 2:06.76 and Ag Bullet’s Ladies Turf Sprint Stakes time being revised from a record 1:13.13 to 1:14.38, which was already close to her previous record.

The timing errors were linked to a new timing system introduced by Kentucky Downs, developed through a partnership between the French GPS tracking firm McLloyd and Kentucky-based AI sensor company StrideSAFE. This system was designed to provide highly precise race timing and extensive biometric data for equine welfare. Kentucky Downs management, including VP of racing Ted Nicholson, stated they will thoroughly review the new system’s performance as part of their post-meet operational scrutiny.
