The Kent County 4-H Fair, held July 16-19 in Tolchester, showcased the dedication and spirit of local 4-H youth through livestock competitions, contests, and various activities. The event featured a range of animals including cows, pigs, goats, rabbits, and horses, alongside new events like a 4-H alumni showmanship and a lawn tractor obstacle course. Attendees enjoyed diverse attractions such as police K-9 demonstrations, archery, fashion shows, live music, and food vendors, with highlights including the greased pig contest and a Power Wheels Demolition Derby for young children.
The fair also emphasized community involvement and youth development, with judges evaluating projects from baked goods to artwork, and proceeds benefiting the Kent County 4-H and Kent Ag Center. Despite slightly lower attendance due to heat, organizers reported the highest 4-H membership in over a decade and praised the event’s smooth execution and broad appeal, noting it truly offered something for everyone.
