Kelly Smith has devoted over 30 years to rescuing and rehabilitating horses through Omega Horse Rescue in York County, Pennsylvania. Inspired by her childhood bond with her first pony and driven by the poor conditions she witnessed in many horses, Smith founded the rescue to save horses from slaughter and prepare them for adoption. The center not only heals the animals but also provides emotional healing for the people involved.
Despite the dedication of volunteers, Omega Horse Rescue faces financial hardships, often having to limit the number of horses they can take in due to costly veterinary emergencies and operational expenses. Nonetheless, Smith remains motivated by the success stories and adoption updates, which serve as powerful reminders of the positive impact the rescue has on both horses and people.
