The Kelantan government is aiming to establish the state as a hub for the horse industry, capitalizing on the high number of local horse breeders and the public’s strong interest in horse breeding. State Agriculture Committee chairman Datuk Tuan Mohd Saripudin Tuan Ismail highlighted the presence of various quality horse breeds in Kelantan and emphasized that with proper planning and support, this initiative could enhance breeders’ livelihoods and transform the state into a notable agro-tourism destination attracting both domestic and international visitors.
Supporting this vision, the Veterinary Services Department (DSV) director-general Dr Akma Ngah Hamid noted Kelantan’s significant potential in the horse industry, stressing the need for responsible conservation practices, improved registration and monitoring systems, and the development of training and research programs. These measures are seen as essential to comprehensively strengthen and sustain the growth of the horse industry in the region.
