The Kelantan government is aiming to establish the state as a hub for the horse industry, leveraging the high number of local horse breeders and the public’s strong interest in horse breeding. State Agriculture Committee chairman Datuk Tuan Mohd Saripudin Tuan Ismail highlighted the presence of various quality horse breeds in Kelantan and emphasized that with proper planning and support, this initiative could enhance breeders’ livelihoods and develop Kelantan into an agro-tourism destination attracting both domestic and international tourists.
Supporting this vision, Veterinary Services Department director-general Dr Akma Ngah Hamid noted Kelantan’s significant potential in the horse industry, stressing the need for responsible conservation practices, improved registration and monitoring systems, and the development of training and research programs. These measures aim to comprehensively strengthen the industry and realize Kelantan’s goal of becoming Malaysia’s horse industry hub.
