The Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale has seen a significant surge in activity and prices through its fifth session on November 8, surpassing last year’s gross with $221.8 million from 1,176 horses sold, a 29% increase year-over-year and already exceeding the total gross of the entire previous sale by 13%. Saturday’s session alone saw 259 horses sold for $25.3 million, with average and median prices rising sharply by 31% and 49%, respectively. Demand remains strong for high-quality young mares, highlighted by the top-priced mare Way Too Sexy, a 4-year-old daughter of Flatter in foal to McKinzie, who sold for $400,000 to Cary Bloodstock for Coteau Grove Farms.
The weanling market also held firm, with a Vekoma colt topping the session at $375,000 and an Elite Power filly fetching the highest price among weanling fillies. Faris Breeding led buyers for the second consecutive session, while Gainesway was the top consignor. The sale continues with Book 4 starting November 9, featuring hips 1858-2271, with 77 horses reported as outs so far. Overall, the market reflects robust demand and strong investment in quality breeding stock.
