Justin Verboomen: The Belgian Dressage Star Who Revolutionized the Sport in 2025

In 2025, Belgian dressage rider Justin Verboomen made a remarkable impact on the sport alongside his nine-year-old stallion Zonik Plus. The 38-year-old achieved multiple historic milestones, including dominating the CDI 4* in Lier, securing podium finishes in ’s-Hertogenbosch, becoming the first Belgian on Aachen’s Wall of Fame, winning a European title, and reaching the top spot in world rankings. His season peaked with a stunning 91.195% score to win the Grand Prix Freestyle at the Top 12 dressage Final in Frankfurt, showcasing his rapid rise since his impressive World Cup debut in Mechelen in 2024.

Verboomen credits much of their success to Zonik Plus’s physical and mental growth, which has made the horse calmer and stronger in competitions. Looking ahead, Justin plans to debut another promising horse, Djembe de Hus, at Mechelen, hoping to replicate the emotional connection he shares with Zonik. Fans can catch Justin and other top riders live at the FEI dressage World Cup events in Nekkerhal between Christmas and New Year.
