Justice Krishna Shripad Dixit of the Orissa High Court emphasized the importance of being analytical, meticulous, and proficient in both law and language for law students to succeed. Addressing new students at the SOA National Institute of Law, he highlighted the need to study diverse laws and subjects, develop logical thinking, and maintain sensitivity in legal matters. He stressed that hard work, exemplified by jurist Nani Palkhivala’s dedication, is essential but must be guided by clear goals and moral principles, as the legal profession is rooted in justice rather than business.
Justice Dixit also illustrated the clever use of legal technicalities in practice and encouraged students to pursue a broad range of studies beyond a single book or perspective, reflecting the cultural ethos of India. Quoting the Gita, he underscored the sacredness of acquiring knowledge, urging students to approach their education with dedication and a sense of purpose.
