Justice Krishna Shripad Dixit of the Orissa High Court emphasized the importance of being analytical, meticulous, and proficient in both law and language for law students to succeed. Speaking at the 15th orientation program of SOA National Institute of Law, he highlighted the need for extensive study across various legal subjects and the development of logical thinking and sensitivity. He stressed that hard work, exemplified by jurist Nani Palkhivala’s dedication, is essential but must be guided by a clear purpose.
Justice Dixit also underscored that the legal profession is rooted in morality, not business, and urged students to avoid delaying or denying justice. Using a clever legal technicality case, he illustrated the importance of precise language in law. He encouraged students to pursue a broad range of studies beyond a single book or perspective and quoted the Gita to affirm that acquiring knowledge is a sacred pursuit.
