Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners announced on social media that Journalism, the runner-up from the Kentucky Derby, will compete in the 150th Preakness Stakes on Saturday. Trainer Michael McCarthy has confirmed the decision, and Umberto Rispoli is set to ride the horse. The team expressed excitement about showcasing Journalism’s talents in this prestigious race.
Aron Wellman, representing Eclipse, indicated that they would conduct a thorough examination of Journalism before finalizing the decision. He noted that the horse has shown no issues since the Derby, making it likely for him to participate in the Preakness. Journalism has an impressive track record, including wins in the Los Alamitos Futurity, San Felipe, and Santa Anita Derby.
The Preakness Stakes is shaping up to be competitive, with Journalism being one of only three graded-stakes winners confirmed for the race. Other contenders include Sandman and Gosger, along with several others expected to enter. McCarthy mentioned that Journalism will be transported from Kentucky to Maryland on Tuesday, ensuring he arrives in time for the race.
