Journalism Breezes at Del Mar Ahead of Possible Travers or Pacific Classic Start

Journalism, winner of the Preakness Stakes (G1) and Haskell Stakes (G1), recently completed a half-mile breeze at Del Mar in :48 2/5 as he prepares for an upcoming race that has not yet been announced. Trained by Michael McCarthy, the 3-year-old Curlin colt has a record of 6-2-1 in nine starts with nearly $3.8 million in earnings. While his next race remains undecided, potential options include the Travers Stakes (G1) at Saratoga or the Pacific Classic (G1) at Del Mar, both run at 1 1/4 miles.

The Travers Stakes is expected to feature Sovereignty, who defeated Journalism in the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes, as the favorite. Meanwhile, the Pacific Classic could see contenders like Nysos and White Abarrio, who are anticipated to travel west for the race. Journalism’s connections have not disclosed which race he will target next, leaving anticipation high for his upcoming campaign.
