The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Montana/Dakotas will host the Upper Yellowstone Wild Horse & Burro Adoption Event from June 6 to June 8, 2025, at the Park County Fairgrounds in Livingston. This event offers attendees the chance to adopt from a selection of 54 wild horses and burros, including untouched horses and saddle-trained options from the Wyoming Honor Farm. Educational sessions with experienced trainers will also be available to provide insights on the care and training of these animals.
The Wyoming Honor Farm, a minimum-security facility, has partnered with the BLM since 1988 to train and place wild horses in homes. The gentling process at the farm fosters trust between inmates and horses, facilitating successful transitions for both. The event schedule includes public viewing, a clinic on horse care, and adoption opportunities, culminating in an auction for two saddle-trained horses.
By adopting a wild horse or burro, participants help maintain healthy rangelands and ensure a sustainable future for these animals. Interested individuals can submit applications in advance through the Wild Horse and Burro Online Corral and find more information on adoption requirements through the BLM. For inquiries, contact details are provided for further assistance.
