The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is hosting a two-day wild horse and burro adoption event on October 3-4 at the Idabel rodeo arena in Idabel, Oklahoma. The event will feature 150 animals, including adult and yearling horses and burros, available for adoption. The adoption hours are from noon to 6 p.m. on October 3 and from 8 a.m. to noon on October 4.
The BLM conducts these events to manage wild horse and burro populations and ensure the health of rangeland resources. Since 1973, the BLM has successfully placed over 280,000 animals in approved homes. Onsite staff will assist with the application process, which requires adopters to be at least 18 years old and have adequate space and facilities for the animals.
To qualify for adoption, applicants must meet specific requirements, including having a minimum of 400 square feet of corral space per animal and appropriate fencing. All animals must be transported in covered, stock-type trailers. For more details, interested individuals can contact the BLM or visit their website.
