Jockeys’ Guild Reaches Agreement on Mount Fees to End Remington Park Embargo

The Jockeys’ Guild has reached a three-year agreement on mount fees for Oklahoma riders, pending approval by the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission, which will end the riding embargo at Remington Park. The deal sets a minimum losing mount fee of $100, includes a fourth-place incentive, and requires all jockeys to pay the per-mount fee to the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA). Notably, Oklahoma is the only state where jockeys must pay these HISA fees directly, whereas other states typically cover these costs through commissions, racetracks, or purse deductions.

The agreement came after negotiations between the Guild, the Remington Park jockey colony, and the Thoroughbred Racing Association of Oklahoma (TRAO), which had initially offered $90 to losing jockeys while the Guild sought $110. Despite the losing mount fee remaining lower than that for Oklahoma quarter-horse jockeys, the unified Thoroughbred jockey colony accepted the TRAO’s scale to resolve the standoff, which had led to substitute riders and reduced race fields. Guild members are expected to resume riding at Remington Park as early as Saturday.
