Jockeys Boycott Remington Park Races Amid Mount Fee and Federal Fee Disputes

Negotiations between Thoroughbred horse owners and jockeys in Oklahoma over mount fees—the payment jockeys receive simply for finishing a race—are ongoing and have led to some jockeys boycotting races at Remington Park. The dispute centers on jockeys seeking higher mount fees, partly due to new fees imposed by the federal Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA). While the Jockeys Guild and the Thoroughbred Racing Association of Oklahoma (TRAO) agreed on a $100 mount fee for jockeys finishing fifth place or lower, jockeys want the TRAO to cover the additional HISA fees, which are a new expense this year and have been unpopular among owners, trainers, and jockeys alike.

These negotiations have disrupted upcoming races, with one Thursday race reduced to only two riders after eight horses were scratched due to the boycott. Despite the challenges, some races will continue with a limited number of jockeys participating. Both sides express hope for a swift resolution to protect the interests of Oklahoma horse racing and all involved parties. Meanwhile, Remington Park has not commented on the situation, and races remain scheduled for the coming days.
