Tsubasa Wada, a promising Japanese jockey born into a horseracing family, suffered a severe brain injury in a 2018 race accident that caused temporary amnesia. After a swift recovery and return to racing, including competing in a G1 race, Wada struggled with performance and injuries, culminating in 140 consecutive defeats. The death of his close friend and fellow jockey Kota Fujioka in 2024 deeply affected him, prompting Wada to retire at age 31 to prioritize safety and commitment to his horses and supporters.
Since retiring, Wada has turned to writing and sharing his experiences through novels and a YouTube channel, aiming to provide insight into the realities of horseracing beyond the sport itself. Reflecting on his journey, he emphasizes resilience and the importance of not giving up, hoping to convey lessons learned from his career and life-threatening falls to a wider audience.
