Jockey Mario Gutierrez avoided serious injury after a fall during Sunday’s ninth race at Gulfstream Park, suffering only bruises and soreness. Gutierrez was riding Souper Dormy, a 9-year-old horse trained by Martin Drexler, when the horse fell near the furlong mark after taking the lead. Unfortunately, Souper Dormy was euthanized following the fall.

Another horse, Lights of Broadway, ridden by Tyler Gaffalione, also fell over Souper Dormy but quickly recovered and walked off the track. The race was ultimately won by Battle of Dover, ridden by Luca Panici, who took the lead after the incident and finished just ahead of the favorite, Fly the W.
