Jane Baker’s Journey: Caring for Over 100 Rescued Farm Animals at Starfield Sanctuary

Jane Baker has dedicated nearly 30 years to rescuing and caring for farm animals, starting with adopting a New Forest pony in 1998. What began as a small rescue grew into Starfield Farm Animal Sanctuary in Carmarthenshire, Wales, now home to over 100 animals including sheep, pigs, goats, and chickens. Despite working night shifts at a nursing home to fund the sanctuary’s £3,000 monthly costs, Jane faced significant financial and health challenges, including a heart attack brought on by stress over raising £88,000 to secure the sanctuary’s land.

Following her health crisis, Jane was overwhelmed by the support from the animal-loving community, with volunteers arriving from near and far to help care for the animals. An anonymous donor recently offered a loan to cover the sanctuary’s purchase price, though Jane continues fundraising to repay it. Deeply connected to her animals, Jane remains committed to their welfare, balancing her health and work while expressing gratitude for the renewed life and hope brought to the sanctuary through community support.
